Meet Dr. Wiser

I care for every patient like she or he is my first degree relative. I am responsible for my patients no matter the outcome, and without an expiration date. My relationship with my patients is built on mutual trust, honesty and setting realistic expectations.”

I am a New York Licensed and an Israeli Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. I serve as the Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mount Sinai Elmhurst Hospital after completing two specialty fellowship programs: a reconstructive microsurgery fellowship specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, and a Lymphedema surgery fellowship program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

I hold a PhD in epidemiology and public health from the Sackler School of Medicine in Israel, which helps me to evaluate novel published treatments and technologies that can benefit my patients. I believe that my medical knowledge directly correlates with the quality of care I provide to my patients, and therefore, in addition to patient care, I am routinely involved in medical research.

I am the author of more than 50 peer reviewed scientific publications, and often present my own work in international plastic surgery conferences. My main research interest is patient reported outcome measurement, a new tool that puts the patient in the center of care.

My Philosophy
Stay in Shape

“Medical and scientific researches have long proved, beyond any doubt, the enormous benefits of routine physical exercise, such as reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, depression and even dementia. By getting your heart rate up and improving blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your skin is what keeps it healthy, promotes collagen and new skin cells production which keeps the skin glowing.

Since early childhood, I have been incorporating regular physical exercise routine in my day-to-day. Yes, there are times when I fail to exercise as much as plan to, but I always go back to it.

My favorite sports are running and Pilates which helps me keep my posture stable. Exercising helps me feel good and be healthier, and other than having a positive effect on one’s mental health, I recommend all of my patients to have a routine workout also to reduce stress which is known to benefit the skin and to improve the results and the recovery of/form the esthetic procedures done to your face or body.”

Listen to Music

“I have a special connection to music from the cradle. I have been playing the piano since I was four years old. I completed classical piano training at the age of 18, just before I decided to pursue a career in medicine. Still, the love of music continued and I play the piano, alone or with friends, whenever I get a chance. For me, listening and playing music is the best mood enhancer I can ever prescribe.

While playing, I am streaming my emotions and thoughts directly into the keyboard. Researches have shown that blood flows more easily when music is played.

It can also reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, decrease cortisol (stress hormone) levels and increase serotonin and endorphin levels in the blood. It elevates mood. Music can boost the brain's production of the hormone dopamine and by doing that reduce stress that can make your skin look much better and healthy.”

Keep your stress levels low
to help your skin glow

“Growing in a Jewish family I used to watch my mother cook Cholent (a traditional Shabbat dish) in a pressure cooker. This marvelous pot had a valve on its top. Once pressure built up to a certain level, the valve would open up and release steam to reduce the pressure. At that point I learned that building pressure can give you a tasty meal, but too much of it can explode in your face.

Since then, I maintain a “valve” of my own that prevents me to build up too much stress. Many studies found an association between high levels of stress in life may lead to accelerated aging and risk of chronic diseases. One famous study comparing facial appearance in identical twins showed that twin who had history of divorce, took anti-depressants or smoked appeared significantly older. The impact of stress on the skin can be substantial that experts named this new field "Psychodermatology". “

The Conusltation Process
Be Kind

“I pursued the profession of medicine to have the opportunity to express kindness and empathy to my patients. I take pride in my ability to listen and communicate with my patients, address their needs and concerns.

I make those part of my treatment plan. I believe that a trust between a patient and a caregiver should be earned and is not a given. Therefore, I invite my patients to challenge me with questions and inquiries. I also offer to all my patients a direct communication line with me, just because they deserve it.”

Be Humble

“I can learn from everybody, especially my patients. I know that the path to constantly improve is understanding you do not possess all the knowledge, nor you know best how to implement it.

I do my best efforts to accept different views and criticism (constructive) believing it will eventually make me a better surgeon and a better person.”

Find beauty in every person and make them shine

“I am actively seeking beauty everywhere and in everyone. My goal as a plastic surgeon is to expose beauty so my patients can enjoy it and enjoy life with it.”
