Hand Rejuvenation in NYC: Fillers and Peels for Aging Hands

Hands age in two ways: the fat layer on the back of the hand thins, so veins and tendons stand out, and years of sun leave spots and crepey skin. Hand rejuvenation treats each cause: a filler restores the volume, and a peel or other surface treatment improves the skin. Sarah Walner, PA-C treats hands at the practice, often in the same visit as the face.

Filler for volume loss

A filler placed beneath the skin on the back of the hand softens the look of veins and tendons by restoring the cushion that age removes. Treatment takes about twenty minutes; expect swelling for a few days. The same products and approach are described on the dermal fillers page.

Peels for sun damage

A light or medium peel on the backs of the hands lightens sun spots and smooths crepey texture, with a few days of flaking. Sun protection afterward keeps the result. See chemical peels for how peel depth is chosen.

Downtime, results and cost

Filler: swelling and possible bruising for a few days, result visible immediately and settled within two weeks. Peel: flaking for a few days. Results and how long they last vary by patient, area and product. Hand treatments are priced per syringe or per peel; the practice gives a written estimate at the consultation.

Questions patients ask about hand rejuvenation

What makes hands look older?

Two things: loss of the fat layer on the back of the hand, which makes veins and tendons prominent, and sun damage, which causes spots and crepey skin. Each has its own treatment.

How long does hand filler last?

Hands are an active area; many patients refresh within a year. Results and how long they last vary by patient, area and product.

Is there downtime?

Swelling and some bruising for a few days after filler; light peeling for a few days after a peel. Daily activities continue.

Can hand treatments be combined with facial treatments?

Yes, and they usually are; hands and face are often treated in the same visit.
