PRP results arrive slowly because hair grows slowly. Most patients notice reduced shedding first, within the first couple of months, then early regrowth and fine new hairs, then gradual thickening; the result is judged a few months after the initial series of three or four monthly sessions, with maintenance every few months after that. Results vary by patient, by the cause and stage of hair loss, and by how consistently the treatment plan is followed. This month-by-month guide comes from Dr. Itay Wiser's practice.
Month by month
- Month 1. First session. Brief scalp tenderness for a day; no visible change yet. Some patients notice a little shedding in the following weeks.
- Month 2. Second session. Shedding often begins to slow.
- Month 3. Third session. Less hair in the brush and shower is commonly the first change patients notice.
- Month 4. Fourth session if planned. Fine new hairs may appear along the part or hairline.
- Months 5 to 6. Gradual thickening of existing hair; progress photos compared with the start.
- Months 6 to 12. The result becomes clearer; maintenance sessions begin every few months to hold it.
Results vary by patient, by the cause and stage of hair loss, and by how consistently the treatment plan is followed.
What changes the timeline
- The cause and stage of hair loss; earlier thinning tends to respond more.
- Following the session schedule; spacing sessions further apart slows progress.
- Other treatments used alongside, such as those recommended by a dermatologist.
- General health, nutrition, stress and hormonal changes.
- PRP or PRF, and individual response.
Maintenance
Because pattern hair loss continues, maintenance sessions every few months help hold the result; the frequency is set from your progress photos. The cost guide explains how maintenance is priced, and non-surgical hair restoration in NYC covers the treatment.
Questions about PRP results
Is it normal to shed after PRP?
Some patients notice a little shedding in the first weeks as weaker hairs make way for new growth. It usually settles; mention it at your next session.
When will other people notice?
Usually not before the initial series is complete and several months have passed, because hair grows slowly. Comparing standardized photos is the most reliable way to see change.
What if I see no change after the series?
Sarah reviews progress photos with you after the initial series. If response is limited, options include adjusting the plan, switching to PRF, adding another treatment, or deciding PRP is not the right tool.
How long do results last?
Pattern hair loss continues, so maintenance sessions every few months help hold the result. Stopping entirely lets the underlying process resume.
